New Valorant players copy a pro's exported crosshair code expecting it to feel natural immediately, then get frustrated when their aim doesn't improve. A crosshair setting is a preference layered on top of fundamentals, not a substitute for them — but a handful of settings genuinely do affect performance, and it's worth knowing which ones before you spend an hour tweaking colors.

Crosshair size and visibility, not color, is what matters

The actual performance-relevant crosshair choices are size, outline thickness, and center-dot presence — settings that affect how precisely you can place your aim point and how visible it stays against bright or cluttered backgrounds. A small crosshair without an outline can look clean but becomes nearly invisible against light Ascent or Icebox textures, which costs you split-second recognition in real fights. Color is genuinely just preference once it's visible against your typical maps.

Sensitivity: find your ceiling, then come down slightly

Audio settings deserve more attention than most guides give them

Valorant's footstep and ability audio carries genuine tactical information, and stereo/positional audio settings that are technically "correct" by default aren't always tuned for a typical headset. If you're consistently surprised by flanks you should be hearing, check that your audio output device matches your actual headset in Windows sound settings — a mismatched output device is a common, invisible cause of muddy positional audio that no in-game setting fixes.
